Description
Short descriptionThe most rare 3th press. The `Record Collector`s research estimates only 5,000 copies were pressed. Please Please Me is the debut album by The Beatles. Of the album's fourteen songs, eight were written by Lennon/McCartney . George Martin initially contemplated recording the album live at the Cavern in front of the group's home audience and visited the Liverpool club on 9 December 1962 to consider the technicalities. When time constraints intervened, he decided to book The Beatles at EMI Studios in Abbey Road instead and record them virtually live. Martin said, "It was a straightforward performance of their stage repertoire — a broadcast, more or less." The day ended with a cover of "Twist and Shout", which had to be recorded last because John Lennon had a particularly bad cold and Martin feared the throat-shredding vocal would ruin Lennon's voice for the day. This performance, captured first take, and generally regarded as a classic, prompted Martin to say: "I don't know how they do it. We've been recording all day but the longer we go on the better they get." The legendary theatre photographer Angus McBean took the distinctive colour photograph of the group looking down over the stairwell inside EMI's London headquarters in Manchester Square. In 1969, The Beatles asked McBean to recreate this shot. The 1969 photograph, along with an unused photograph from the 1963 photo session, was used in 1973 for The Beatles' retrospective albums 1962–1966 and 1967–1970. Please Please Me hit the top of the UK album charts in May 1963 and remained there for thirty weeks before being replaced by With the Beatles. The Beatles first album went on to become one of the highest selling and collectable LP’s of all time

Label descriptionThe first issue on the traditional Black and Yellow Parlophone label; Small `33 1/3` at 9 o'clock; ‘Made in Gt. BRITAIN’ ; Rim text ‘THE PARLOPHONE CO. LTD. ‘ ; 'ZT' tax code embossed on the label
Records in set:1
ConditionVery good; Good
ConditionThe photo shows the tiny “33 1/3” text which was originally used on the first Parlophone’s “black and gold” labels. The newly designed Yellow & Black label overlay had the large 33 1/3 above the yellow Parlophone logo. The duplication was an mistake and small “33 1/3“ was removed almost immediately from all later labels. Not very many out of 5000 pressed copies of this initial run were preserved and survived, as contrarily to the first “black and gold” label, this variation was not recorded for a very long time and was considered by the most owners just as one of many in the Black and Yellow Parlophone label family - the vinyl collectors’ world only relatively late learned the fact this label exists. Unsurprisingly, that this variant –is offered for sale at least 10 times less often that the “black and gold” label variant. It is considered by many as the rarest label variant of all Beatles records and the top for desirability and collectability

Sound sample:'Tube cut' ! The discs pressed until late 1972 on high quality heavy vinyl (around 150 g) They have outstanding sound quality which later 'solid-state cuts' never matched. (A vinyl connoisseurs’ jargon referring to the quality of 'vacuum-tube vs. solid-state amplifier technology - when record companies pressed the records in the earlier days, they tried to stay on the same level with vacuum tube sound reproduction equipment which has more dynamic and frequency responses compared with a later mediocre solid-state playback). If you value sound quality and want to enjoy the sound of the originals, look no further. You will not be disappointed

Sleeve descriptionFront laminated; Tri-flipback; `Ernest J. Day`
ConditionVery good; Good
ConditionThe front cover picture was a photo taken by Angus McBean who's name appears at the bottom right corner of the sleeve. Only on the very first issue sleeves does the 'P' from “Photo: Angus McBean” appear directly underneath the letter 's' from the word “songs” (see picture) all later issues this “Photo: Angus McBean” text is moved further left directly under the letter 'g' from the word songs. Obviously, the sleeve can be swapped for a better one, however, we would not do it, unless requested otherwise
