| Short description | Mike Oldfield - Tubular Bells; VS2001, original year of release: 1973; 1-st Virgin press; laminated sleeve; black and white labels, Matrix: VS 2001-A / -B. A few words in explanation: to be a first press the album must have the following: Sleeve must be fully laminated on both sides (later presses were unlaminated); Labels: Virgin – original black and white twin virgins. The labels must be totally black and white, all others are reissues. The matrix numbers must be etched into the dead wax NOT machine stamped. RARITY: The album itself is not hard to find. This album was one of the 'giants' that sold in the millions, but back in 1973 when it was the first ever released on the new Virgin label it sold poorly, Mike Oldfield was a relatively little-known act at this time,.in fact, it took over a year to reach the UK number 1 position in the charts.. The first issue was under-subscribed and it had to be repressed. Consequently, the first issue with the black and white labels are very rare. The copies which initially included a fully laminated cover are extremely rare (most seen have matt covers). However, you can come across the first pressing of this record just once in a life time, if you lucky!
